Presentation
In the 19th century, along with Henryk Wieniawski, Henri Vieuxtemps, Joseph Joachim and Eugène Ysaye, Pablo de Sarasate carried on the succession of Niccolo Paganini. A century after his death, the Spanish virtuoso’s magnificent heritage can be judged by the standard of a few works, which, since then, are played by the world’s greatest violonists.
Yet, there exists a considerable gap between these hits and the rest of his largely ignored and fairly sizeable output.
Sarasate’s catalogue contains several categories of pieces and, on the present CD, we have limited ourselves to works inspired by the Romantic opera of the 19th century.
